Ghosts of the Republic

As I was banging my head and trying to come up with a creative, yet meaningful, name for my blog, I was reminded of a recent e-mail between my own conservative “think-tank” of friends. In response to an e-mail from one of our members, I created a narrative of being possessed by the spirit of John Adams, marching to D.C. and cleaning house. I then quipped that during my subsequent incarceration, the ghosts of Paine and Jefferson would duke it out for the use of my pen hand to inspire apathetic citizens across this once great nation. Something akin to a lighting bolt singed my skull and I understood that the great founders and fathers of this nation deserved a place where they can still be heard. I will do my best to cover a multitude of subjects, but with the focus of including the wisdom and words from the brilliant, God-fearing men of our relatively recent past.

Whether we choose to acknowledge it or not, true wisdom is not confined to its particular place in history. Arguments have been made that history cannot be truly compared to modern times because the world is just too different. I contend that the human condition and the root problems that affect it have never really changed. Therefore, the wisdom of those men and women ring as true today as they did hundreds or thousands of years ago. A great example would be this quote from Thomas Jefferson, “The Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” Are you kidding me? Was there ever a more appropriate line to describe the welfare state that our nation is becoming?

The overall goal of this endeavor will be to reaffirm the fact that this nation is a republic, established by the people and for the people through their proxy, the sovereign state in which they reside. I’m hoping that several states, like Oklahoma, will continue their efforts to re-establish their respective sovereignty in the eyes of the federal government. This country will be a better place if the folks in D.C. remembered where their power is derived from . . . us. When will we brave patriots, descendants of those first American heroes, stand up to the oppressive policies that are knocking on our door? If you are not in a position to change things in your state, start getting involved. Run for office, support those in government that you agree with, or simply vote to get rid of the current socialist regime that has deceived its way into power. Mark my words, friends and fellow conservatives . . . unless we take expedient political action, our only recourse will be expedient action of another sort and I am not yet willing to relive 1861, are you?
